S2000 Pictures at the Car Wash

Just a couple of quick pictures to prove I did actually purchase this car and it’s in our possession! A proper and planned photoshoot is in order, but I’ve been catching up at work after taking time off to purchase the car. In the meantime, here are my first impressions along with the two pictures from tonight.

  1. I had certain preconceived ideas about what the car would be like because it’s a Honda. I was wrong! This is a focused and dedicated sports car; price be damned.
  2. This car is not a grand tourer. While it’ll handle that duty reliably, don’t think for a second that you’ll cruise anywhere!
  3. I don’t care how ‘Fast and Furious’ cliche it is, when VTEC kicks in, your world just got better.
  4. The hard top is fantastic and really makes the car.
  5. There are no drink holders, storeage, flat area, etc, for your latte from Starbucks. Bring drinks in a bottle or don’t at all.
  6. I will need a radar detector. The car just begs you to downshift and accelerate at all times, and it’s hard to resist!

I hope to get some videos up later this weekend and a more detailed account of the first days of ownership. Good night,

The S2000 is very different from mainstream Hondas, although it retains the solid build quality and reliability that Hondas are known for.

From what I’ve heard and read, the S2000′s engine needs to be revved close to it’s stratospheric redline to really get the most out of it. Fortunately, Honda builds amazing engines; the harder you run them, the more they like it.

My previous ’99 Accord coupe was no sports car, but it was way faster than any 4-cylinder mainstream car could expect to be. And even with that car, you could tell when the VTEC kicked in. I’d gun it even when passing on a freeway just to feel that extra kick.

While what you’ve heard and read is correct, it should be noted that is for maximum output. There is actually decent acceleration from 4-6k rpm. Most ‘normal’ driver would probably be satisfied with this acceleration. But once the bar graph tach lights up past 6k on the way to 9k, the real power is revealed and the car really rockets forward. It’s pretty light at 2800lbs and now it feels really light as max power is achieved. Suddenly everything below 6k rpm feels soft — but for normal driving around town, it’s actually perfectly adequate.
